Cherry Picker Hire

The term “cherry picker” remains a very common term when referring to different types of boom mounted platforms.

The name originally derives from platforms used for fruit picking in orchards where the picker had to get up and over the fruit trees.

The term Cherry Picker has made it to Wikipedia and is defined as “a type of aerial work platform that consists of a platform or bucket at the end of a hydraulic lifting system.”

Today, there are many different types of cherry pickers – electric, diesel, bi-energy, telescopic , tracked and articulated.

There are cherry pickers with wheels and cherry pickers with tracks. JMS has one of the most comprehensive cherry picker hire fleets in the UK and can help you work safely at height – whether you’re cleaning windows, putting up signage, erecting steel or even picking those cherries.

Articulated cherry pickers
This cherry picker type provides height access “up and over” obstacles which means they can be situated at a distance from the work area. This is helpful if it’s not possible to get up close to the building or directly underneath the work area.

Telescopic cherry pickers
Also known as straight or stick cherry pickers, these have boom sections that extend telescopically, allowing you to reach farther and with greater capacity than articulated cherry pickers.
Telescopic cherry pickers are ideal for accessing work areas that are extremely high, up to 58m.

Tracked cherry pickers
These cherry pickers are propelled using tracks and provide exceptional agility on uneven ground. They are also known as “spider” cherry pickers thanks to their outrigger configuration which enables the machine load to be evenly spread across the floor. Spider lifts offer high reach capability whilst retaining narrow travel width, so are ideal for use where access is restricted.

Electric cherry pickers
Battery powered cherry pickers have increased in popularity over recent years, as more contractors are needing low emission platforms to meet environmental targets. Manufacturers have responded to this and are developing ever more powerful cherry pickers that can rival diesel machines for height and performance capabilities.
Electric cherry pickers can be a versatile option for applications indoors and out, removing the need for hiring multiple platforms.

Diesel cherry pickers
Powered by diesel engines, these are the most powerful type of self-propelled cherry pickers. They are usually hired for external jobs and can enable operators to work at huge heights of up to 58m.

Bi-energy cherry pickers
Bi-energy offers the best of both worlds. Emission free battery powered allows for working indoors or in sensitive environments while the diesel power allows for easy travel across the work site, saving battery power.
If you need your powered access to be flexible, then the bi-energy is a good choice.
