Scissor lift hire from JMS

Scissor lifts provide height access via their scissor-like lifting mechanism. They can be extremely versatile and are a common sight on job sites and in powered access fleets.

Scissor lifts operate vertically so need to be situated on level ground directly underneath and as close to the work area as possible. They don't normally provide outreach however some scissor lifts have deck extensions to increase the platform area and provide a small amount of outreach.

Scissor lifts are suitable for applications where operators need to have tools and materials with them at height. For example, cladding, curtain walling, and indoor & outdoor building maintenance tasks.

There are two main types of scissor lift:

    • Rough terrain scissor lifts: These are designed to work on challenging ground conditions. They often have foam-filled tyres to help protect against punctures and come with 4 wheel drive to make moving across uneven terrain easier.
Both electric and diesel power options are available for rough terrain scissor lifts.

    •  Slab scissor lifts: These are designed for operation on slab or flat hard surfaces and come with non-marking tyres to protect flooring.
Often built on compact chassis, these scissor lifts are ideal for working in narrow aisles environments where space is limited such as warehouses and manufacturing units.
Typically battery powered, they can be used internally and wherever low emissions are required.

Upon successful completion of the IPAF course, candidates will be issued a digital IPAF Powered Access licence (PAL) card on the ePAL app. Certifications are valid for up to 5 years, after which the card will expire and the course will need to be taken again.

LOLER Inspections - Why we do it

LOLER inspections involve a "thorough examination" of a powered access platform, such as a scissor lift, and are legally required to be done every 6 months. All scissor lifts must comply with LOLER regulations to ensure they are in a safe condition before use. JMS Powered Access ensure all scissor lifts are inspected, not only during LOLER inspections but also before they are delivered to the customer, as part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), so our customers can hire with confidence.

The Power of Electric: Scissor Lifts at JMS

In recent years, we have seen a marked increase in customer demand for electric scissor lift hire.

Scissor lift manufacturers have responded by producing models that go higher (working heights) and go longer (duty cycle). Here’s our top five benefits of Electric powered scissor lifts

1. Environmentally Friendly:

Electric scissor lifts are a great choice for environmental sustainability. Zero emissions make them an ideal – smaller carbon footprint over their lifespan and no emissions at the point of operation.

2. Quieter Operation:

Electric scissor lifts operate much more quietly than their diesel counterparts, making them perfect for environments where noise reduction is important. Retail, Leisure, hospitals, schools, commercial, tv and film sets – anywhere where loud machinery can be disruptive

3. Lower Running Costs:

Electric lifts require less maintenance than diesel models and the cost of electricity is typically lower than diesel fuel.

4. Better for Indoor Use:

Electric scissor lifts are ideal for indoor use. Non marking tyres help protect floor finishes, whilst with electric power – there are zero-emissions in operation. Diesel fumes can be harmful in enclosed spaces.

5. Advanced Technology:

Many modern electric scissor lifts are equipped with advanced technology – More powerful batteries, more efficient operation (through direct drive), as well as enhanced control systems, self-diagnostic tools etc. This makes operating the lift more efficient and user-friendly.
